Everything You Need to Know Before You Book
Whether you're new to breathwork or looking for support with stress, sleep, wellbeing, or performance, you may have a few questions before getting started.
If you can't find the answer you're looking for, please feel free to get in touch.
General Questions
What is breathwork?
Breathwork is the intentional use of breathing techniques to support your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
Different breathing practices can have different purposes. Some help calm the nervous system, while others improve breathing efficiency, support sleep, enhance performance, or increase self-awareness.
At The Guided Breath, sessions are tailored to your individual goals and may include Functional Breathing, Conscious Connected Breathwork, or a combination of both.
What is Functional Breathing?
Functional Breathing focuses on improving the way you breathe every day.
It helps develop healthier breathing habits by encouraging efficient nasal breathing, better diaphragm function, and improved breathing mechanics.
It is commonly used to support stress management, sleep, nervous system regulation, recovery, exercise performance, and overall wellbeing.
What is Conscious Connected Breathwork?
Conscious Connected Breathwork is a guided breathing practice using a continuous breathing pattern to support self-awareness, nervous system regulation, and emotional wellbeing.
Every experience is different. Sessions are facilitated in a trauma-aware, choice-led way, allowing you to explore your experience at a pace that feels safe and supportive.
Which type of breathing is right for me?
That depends on your goals.
If you're looking for practical breathing techniques to improve stress, sleep, focus, or breathing habits, Functional Breathing is often the best place to begin.
If you're interested in exploring a deeper breathing practice focused on self-awareness and personal growth, Conscious Connected Breathwork may be appropriate.
If you're unsure, I'm happy to help guide you towards the most suitable option.
Booking & Sessions
What happens during a 1:1 session?
Every session begins with a conversation about your goals, health history, and what you'd like support with.
From there, your session is tailored to your individual needs and may include breathing assessment, guided breathing practices, education, nervous system regulation techniques, or Conscious Connected Breathwork where appropriate.
You'll also receive practical strategies to continue using between sessions.
Are sessions available online?
Yes.
Private sessions are available both online and in person.
Many breathing techniques translate very well online, allowing you to receive guidance from the comfort of your own home.
Where are in-person sessions held?
Private sessions are available in Newtown, Geelong, Victoria.
Group classes are currently offered at Destination Happiness and Chill Breathe & Revive.
How long is a session?
Most private sessions run for approximately 60–90 minutes, depending on the type of session and your individual needs.
How many sessions will I need?
Some people achieve their goals in just one or two sessions, while others choose ongoing support.
The number of sessions depends on your goals, experience, and the reason you're seeking support.
Classes
I've never done breathwork before. Can I still attend?
Absolutely.
Many people attending classes are completely new to breathwork.
Everything is explained clearly, and every practice can be adapted to suit your experience and comfort level.
Are your classes gentle?
Yes.
My weekly classes focus on regulation rather than activation.
The emphasis is on practical breathing techniques that help calm the nervous system, improve breathing habits, and leave you feeling more grounded, clear, and connected.
Some classes may include optional breath holds or slightly more active breathing, but these are always guided and entirely optional.
What should I bring?
Wear comfortable clothing and bring water.
Yoga mats and props are usually provided by the venue, although you're welcome to bring anything that helps you feel comfortable.
Safety
Is breathwork safe?
Breathwork is generally well tolerated by most healthy individuals when practised appropriately.
However, some breathing techniques may not be suitable for everyone.
